The Lufia series, which initially puzzled RPG fanatics on the Super NES, is now making its way to the Game Boy Color. While the screen may be smaller, the adventure remains just as vast and challenging. Developed and published by Natsume, Lufia: The Legend Returns is a deep RPG featuring a complex fighting system and a traditional Good vs. Evil storyline.

Players control a young swordsman named Wain, who must journey to Doom Island to eradicate the threat of the evil Sinistrals. Throughout the game, players will encounter numerous other adventurers, with the potential to build a party of up to nine warriors. It is crucial to carefully organize your party, as their arrangement plays a critical role in battle sequences. Although only three characters can fight at a time, being attacked from the side or behind could result in some party members being unable to participate in the battle.

The battles in Lufia: The Legend Returns are turn-based and include a variety of spells, weapons, and special items that RPG fans will appreciate. One unique aspect of the game is its mapping system, which randomly regenerates each time you enter a dungeon or cave. This means that players could explore the same dungeon multiple times and never encounter the same map twice.

While the game does have some issues with sluggish walking controls, overall, Natsume's third installment in the Lufia series is a success. The gameplay is challenging, the world is expansive, and the party setup system adds an innovative twist.
